My Voodoo Mountain Story
My passion & love for growing food, cooking
& creating great flavours
My exciting journey of creating & building my business
Hi I’m Sandy & I am the maker and creator behind Voodoo Mountain Preserves.

I have always had a Love or I like to think an ancestral need to cook! I’m pretty sure it’s in the genes.

In 2019 I was lucky enough to be able to follow my long time goal of a career change. I traded my steel caps & high vis to move on from the hectic world of shipping and industry which I had been a part of for the past 20 years. For a very long time I had been craving a simpler more self-sufficient lifestyle and a work life balance that suited my needs. I had been driving 160kms a day to and from work & working long hours often in a high stress environment. My health was being impacted, I was tired all the time and 4 weeks leave a year just wasn’t enough.

It was finally time to turn the page and move to the next chapter in my life.

My Passion and Love for growing food, cooking and creating great flavours led me to establish my very own range of unique, handmade gourmet sauces and preserves. A new & exciting journey of creating and building my little market stall food business Voodoo Mountain Preserves had begun.
About Voodoo Mountain
Growing our own food and living away from the hustle
and bustle of every day life
Creating a simpler lifestyle
My husband Dean and I moved to our property Voodoo Mountain back in 2006 .
We were so excited to find this beautiful parcel of land in the Mountains overlooking Turkey Beach, the Eurimbula ranges, Pancake Creek, Rodd’s Bay and the Bustard Head
Light House in Central Queensland. Growing our own food and living in the bush away
from the hustle and bustle of the every day world was the way of life we craved and needed to escape the fast paced world we worked in. The property was very overgrown, with a run down old cottage, and very little water. Over the years we have slowly renovated and extended our humble little home, planted a huge fruit orchard, a home vegetable garden, installed many tanks to collect rain water, added solar panels, and this year we are working with a cultural land expert to learn how to maintain this beautiful 160 acres in the Mountains, as well as protect the native wild life, flora and bush foods that grow widely in the dry creek beds.

It has always been our dream to be as self-sufficient as we could be and to eventually move away from the fast-paced world we worked in for a simpler lifestyle.
MY LITTLE HELPERS

Whilst this business is my little baby, you won’t have to look far to find my biggest supporter and helper. My hubby Dean & fur child Walter the Skateboarding Bulldog are regulars with me at local markets. Walter is a favourite with many children and customers. Dean is always in the background being a fabulous partner by supporting my business, jumping in to help with a big cook, picking up fresh produce in Bundaberg, labelling jars and bottles and even running the local 1770 market stall solo when I have doubled up with another event.
