  • Do these products need to be refrigerated?
Products can be kept in the cupboard until opened, however it is preferable to put them in the fridge if your kitchen cupboard can get extremely hot in summer conditions. Once opened, refrigerate your product as instructed on the label.
  • What local and imported ingredients do you use?
One of our big focus points is ‘Home Grown or Locally sourced produce’. However, this is not always possible, although we make great effort to make this the case wherever possible. Mostly all produce is homegrown or sourced from local farms in Bundaberg. Olive oil is always Australian made and where possible sourced from our local markets. The Apple Cider Vinegar we use is made of 65% Australian ingredients, the Malt Vinegar is 99% Australian ingredient's and the Balsamic Vinegar is made in Italy. Where possible the spices are Australian made, however the bulk of spices are not available in Australia.
  • I need products without any sweetener, what do you recommend?"
We don’t use any artificial preservatives in our products. This means vinegar and sugar are our natural preservatives to allow shelf-life stability. Whilst we try to reduce our sugar content we are unable to remove it completely.
  • Which of your products are gluten free?
All of our products are gluten free EXCEPT the Worcestershire Sauces. This is due to the Malt Vinegar base.
  • Which of your products are vegan, vegetarian and dairy free?"
At this stage all of our products are vegan, vegetarian and dairy free.
  • Sometimes I buy the same product but it can look or taste different, why if this?"
All products are made in small batches, but they should mostly be exactly the same. Sometimes you may see a slight variation in colour or consistency but we work very had to minimize this. For example large tomatoes hold more water than smaller tomatoes, so a relish or sauce may need to cook longer to achieve the correct consistency without using any artificial or flour thickeners.
  • Why does my Tomato Sauce have a slight dark colour at the top?
This is totally normal in all tomato based products. It is due to the black spices and pepper in the ingredients. Over time they will give the appearance of a very faint black rim at the top of the product. There is nothing wrong and the product is totally safe to eat.
  • Why does my sauce look a bit runny at the top?
We don’t use any thickeners or binders in our sauces. This means the product may separate, the fruit or vegetable pulp may settle towards the bottom and give a runny consistency at the top of the bottle. This is totally normal. As per instructions on the bottle, always give it a good shake before use. Most of our sauces are actually super thick in consistancy.
  • How do I know if my product has gone off?
The preserves generally have a very good shelf life. All bottles are sterilised and hot filled to increase shelf stability. However, they must be kept in the fridge once opened as warm temperature increase the chance of bacteria growth. If your product is no longer safe to eat you will see either mould on top or bubbling and fermentation. If in doubt feel free to contact our customer service team. voodoomountainpreserves@gmail.com
